What Excavation Repair Involves

Sewer and water line excavation repair is the traditional dig-and-replace method for fixing or installing underground sewer and water lines. Unlike trenchless methods that rehabilitate a pipe from the inside, excavation opens the ground above the damaged section — or the full run, for a new installation — removes or exposes the old pipe, and replaces it with new pipe before backfilling and restoring the surface. It's the method we turn to when a pipe's condition, or the scope of the project, means trenchless simply isn't a structural fit.

When a Pipe Has to Come Out

Not every damaged pipe can be relined or coated. A full pipe collapse, a severe belly or offset in the line, or a section that needs to be upsized to handle more flow are conditions that trenchless methods can't correct from the inside — the pipe itself has to come out. We won't try to sell a lining or coating job onto a pipe that won't hold it. If our camera inspection shows your line needs full replacement, or if you're installing a brand-new sewer or water line for an addition or new construction, excavation repair is the direct, dependable path. If your pipe turns out to be a better candidate for a no-dig fix, we'll say so and point you to CIPP Pipe Lining instead — we'd rather be the honest option than the default one.
